Preparing Your Home for a Strip-Out: A Homeowner's Checklist
A practical pre-demolition checklist so your bathroom, kitchen, or full-home strip-out goes smoothly, safely, and on schedule.
A smooth strip-out starts before our crew arrives. A little preparation protects your home, speeds up the job, and avoids surprises. Use this checklist before any bathroom, kitchen, or full-home strip-out.
1. Clear the Space
Remove all personal items, furniture, rugs, artwork, and anything fragile from the room and the path our crew will use to carry debris out. In bathrooms, take out toiletries, mirrors, and shower caddies. In kitchens, empty the cabinets you're losing.
2. Protect Adjacent Areas
We lay drop sheets and protect floors along our exit path, but it helps if you move anything nearby that could be knocked or dust-coated — especially electronics and artwork.
3. Isolate Utilities
Turn off water and power to the room on the morning of the job. If you're unsure how, let us know and we'll guide you. We cap off plumbing and electrical points as part of the strip-out.
4. Flag Anything to Keep
Heritage tapware, a feature light, or a fixture you want preserved? Point it out before we start. Once demolition begins it's hard to reverse.
5. Arrange Asbestos Testing if Pre-1990
If your home was built before 1990, particularly in bathrooms, kitchens, and laundries, asbestos may be present. We can test and safely remove it — flag this when you book.
6. Keep Kids and Pets Clear
Demolition is noisy, dusty, and involves sharp materials. Keep children and pets away from the work zone for the duration of the job.
7. Confirm Bin Placement
We arrange the skip bin. Make sure there's a clear spot on your property or verge, and let us know if you have a narrow driveway or parking restrictions.
